BEDEN, SES VE SESSİZLİK ARASINDA: KUNSTRAUM WALCHETURM’DA DOĞAÇLAMA MÜZİK

Zürih deyince akla genellikle sakin gölleri, düzenli sokakları ve yüksek yaşam standardı gelir. Ama şehrin başka bir sesi daha var: içeriden konuşan, deneysel olan, sessizlikle ve belirsizlikle beslenen bir sanat dili. İşte bu dili en iyi yansıtan yerlerden biri, tarihi bir yapıdan dönüştürülmüş Kunstraum Walcheturm.

Walcheturm, yalnızca bir konser mekânı değil; bir deney alanı. Modern sanatın, elektroakustik doğaçlamaların ve ses yerleştirmelerinin buluştuğu bu mekânda, 13 Haziran’da izlediğimiz performanslar, müziğin sadece duyulan değil, hissedilen ve görülen bir olgu olduğunu gösterdi.

Müzik Nerede Başlar: Sessizlikten Tınıya

Performanslardan ilki, izleyiciyi doğrudan sürecin içine davet eden bir kurgudaydı. Ortada bir sandalye, ona gönüllü olarak oturan bir izleyici ve çevresini saran müzisyenler...
Müzik, bu kişinin yalnızca jest ve mimiklerinden ilham alınarak doğaçlandı. Başın eğimi, gözün hareketi, kaşın çatılması; her küçük ifade bir notaya, bir ritme dönüştü. Ancak zaman zaman müzisyenlerin yön bulmakta zorlandığı, ifadeden yeterince veri alamadıkları anlar oldu.
Belki de tam bu kırılganlık, performansa insanî ve sahici bir katman ekliyordu.

Etkileşimin Derinleştiği Anlar

İkinci performansta ise sahnedeki etkileşim çok daha akışkandı. Gönüllü katılımcının daha aktif beden dili, müzisyenlerin yönelimini kolaylaştırıyor, doğaçlamalar daha canlı, daha içten ilerliyordu.
Müzik burada sadece tepki değil; karşılıklı bedensel ve duygusal bir diyalog haline gelmişti. Birbirini yoklayan, tamamlayan, bazen duran ama hep arayan bir dil…

Kunstraum Walcheturm: Gemi Güvertesinde Ses Deneyimi

Tarihi bir yapıdan dönüştürülen Kunstraum Walcheturm, neredeyse bir gemi güvertesine benzetilmiş iç mimarisiyle başlı başına bir deneyim sunuyor.

Mekânın akustiği mükemmele yakın: Sesler duvarlardan yansıyor, tavandan süzülüyor, izleyicinin bedenine dokunuyormuş gibi bir his yaratıyor. Bu yönüyle burası, durağan bir konser salonundan çok, sesin dolaştığı ve yer değiştirdiği canlı bir organizma gibi...

Tarihi yapının içinde çeşitli mini sergiler de göze çarpıyor. 

Bu mekânda müzik, yalnızca kulaktan geçmiyor; bedeninize dokunuyor. Ses fiziksel bir şeye dönüşüyor.

Zürih ve Doğaçlama Müzik Kültürü

Zürih’teki deneysel sahne, Avrupa’nın en derinlikli ve en sade “ses mutfaklarından” biri. Kunstraum Walcheturm gibi mekânlarda müzik, bir ürün değil, bir süreç olarak görülüyor.
Doğaçlama burada, önceden planlanmamışın değil; anın dürüstlüğünün bir sonucu. Hem izleyici hem müzisyen için gerçek zamanlı bir arayış ve buluş.

Zürih'e bir gün yolunuz düşerse, sadece göl kenarlarında yürümekle yetinmeyin. Bir akşamınızı Kunstraum Walcheturm’a ayırın.
Belki sahnede müzik yoktur ama bir sandalye, bir beden ve bir bakış vardır.

🎵 Between Body, Gaze and Sound: An Improvised Music Experience at Kunstraum Walcheturm, Zurich

When one thinks of Zurich, images of quiet lakes, well-organized streets, and a high standard of living often come to mind. But there is another voice to this city — one that speaks from within: experimental, uncertain, and deeply rooted in silence. One of the places where this voice resonates best is Kunstraum Walcheturm, a historic structure reimagined as a space for art and sound.

On June 13, we witnessed two striking performances here — both blurring the line between sound, body, and presence. In this space, music was not something to be played, but something to be felt, watched, and formed in real time.

 

Where Music Begins: From Silence to Sound

The first performance invited the audience directly into the process. A single chair stood in the center. A volunteer from the audience took a seat. Around them, musicians watched intently.
From the smallest facial expression — a tilt of the head, a blink, a raised brow — they created improvised sound. The body became the score. At times, the musicians seemed to hesitate, as if lacking enough cues from the seated person. But that fragility gave the performance its raw, human quality.

🌀 Deepening the Exchange

The second performance offered a more fluid dynamic. The seated volunteer was more expressive, allowing the musicians to follow more naturally.
Here, music became a dialogue — emotional, physical, instinctive. The performers responded not just to movement, but to presence itself. It wasn’t simply a performance; it was a moment shared, negotiated, and gently shaped.

⛵ Kunstraum Walcheturm: A Deck of Sound

Housed in a repurposed historical building, Kunstraum Walcheturm feels like a hybrid between a concert hall and a ship’s deck.

Its acoustic qualities are stunning — sound bounces off the walls, floats down from the ceiling, and seems to physically move through the audience. Rather than a fixed stage, this space becomes a living architecture of sound, constantly shifting and breathing with the performance.
